Sophia Center at Welcome Home Farm
The Sophia Center is a spiritual retreat space located at Welcome Home Farm in rural Northwest Baltimore County. Once a functional corn crib that housed the farm’s corn supply, tractor, and wagons, The Sophia Center is now home to Being Reiki; Thunderboom Institute, sacred drumming; Temenos Center, Temple of the Sacred Feminine; and Hollowdeck Writers Guild of Baltimore.
The forty-five acres of Welcome Home Farm are now protected by conservation easements. Fields have been planted with native hardwoods and warm season grasses fill the meadows. Where cattle once grazed, ground nesting birds now find haven. The apple orchard, honeybee yard, and vegetable garden still thrive. In the picturesque farm pond, koi, bass, sunfish, Israeli Carp, and indigenous turtles share the waters with migrating water birds and the occasional Blue Heron. A small beach and dock allow for a refreshing dip.
Miles of mown walking paths beckon the walker to explore. Wooden benches along the paths invite quiet interludes for reflection. The open deck and old stone porch of the 1800s farmhouse invite you to sit and contemplate, read, write, or gather in small groups for conversation.
